It might have way more torgue and whatnot, but that comes at a huge cost in terms of energy consumed and super low thermal efficiency compared to a diesel. BTW, a diesel can be made to have high torgue lugging power if one makes it slow running with a long stroke and big bore.

The fact that he's blowing the whistle shows that it still has steam to spare even under load. That thing will probably lose traction before you could use all the torque it produces, and that's really something because there is a lot of weight to it too.

I remember stopping for a break on I 64 , in my semi and seeing MAYBE , that very pump jack running right next to the rest stop, about 20yrs ago, as I am a mechanic at heart, I was fasinated by it ( there was a mess around it even back then, just popping away, pumping BLACK GOLD!!

Ever seen the old Daylight steam engine pull up behind a stalled modern diesel train. The steam engine pushed the diesel up the hill as well as pulling it`s own load. Funny how modern engineers with their computers can`t get this right. The old boys figured this out with their brain and slide rules.

This thing could “full pull” the sled with an unlimited class tractor pulling against it from the other end..

That's why I think we should reinvent these steam engine for automobiles

Steam engines are actually as powerful as diesel the reason why they are not on use besides powerplants is because they are slower and are more expensive to maintain

The engineer's like, "Bro, you commentary is sooo boring! Let me spice it up with my GIANT Illinois Central 3-chime whistle!" Also, anyone notice how that road locomotive basically doesn't feel that sled behind it? Yeah, it's only 110 horse but at the same time 8000+ lb-ft of torque!

Are the sparks normal? Wouldn't it light the fields ablaze?
